Bruce Garlick is Chief Perfumer at Arylessence and Vice President of Fragrance Research and Development. A lifetime perfumer, Bruce is a fragrance innovator, an inspired creator, and a highly experienced practitioner of the 'American' school, where great fragrances are built around a great idea and change the world for a brand and its business. He trained as an apprentice perfumer at International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF) under the great Bernard Chant, creator of Aramis and Halston fine fragrances, and then worked extensively in London, Paris and throughout Europe. Bruce made his first mark in fragrance history with Xanadu, a landmark fragrance for women, created for Faberge's Amelia Bassin to reflect the freedom of women who changed the rules in the 1960s. He was also the first perfumer from a major international fragrance company to create candle fragrances, conducting pioneering research into the fundamental properties of waxes and bases and the types of fragrances that work best. He is also an expert on laundry fragrances, how signature laundry scents should be developed, and how these fragrances can be expanded across a diverse product lineup. At Arylessence, Bruce transformed perfumery and fragrance evaluation, highlighting the role fragrance plays in marketing strategy. He pioneered the use of visualizing techniques to create fragrance ideas, and thanks to exceptional insight into what makes a great perfumer, has recruited and trained many Arylessence stars. Today, he remains an active, hands-on fragrance creator.
